Quick verdict

GSWF and SunTek target different buyers. SunTek — owned by Eastman Chemical and sold through a wide installer network — offers reliable clear PPF (Reaction, Ultra Plus) at competitive pricing, plus the longest standard warranty in the industry at 12 years on Reaction. GSWF competes in clear PPF with the Defender series (Platinum at 15 years, the rest at 10) and adds the color PPF category that SunTek does not have. For value-oriented clear protection from a chemistry-giant-backed brand, SunTek is the proven pick. For color-change PPF or a long-warranty Defender Platinum install, GSWF is the answer.

Technology

SunTek Reaction is SunTek's flagship self-healing TPU film. It uses an acrylic adhesive, a self-healing topcoat, and is engineered for high optical clarity. Ultra Plus is SunTek's earlier-generation film, still sold and widely-installed, with a 10-year warranty. SunTek's parent company Eastman Chemical brings industrial-scale chemistry credentials to the lineup — the film is manufactured to consistent specs across high production volumes.

GSWF Defender is a four-layer TPU construction: self-healing topcoat, ultra-thick base film, high-tack adhesive, and advanced liner. The clear lineup spans Defender Platinum (15-year warranty, premium gloss), Defender Ultra (10-year, easier installation), Defender Max (10-mil extra-thick), Defender Hydro (enhanced hydrophobics), Satin and Matte finishes, plus specialty rolls (Defender 72", SPF70 Sunroof).

Color PPF

SunTek does not currently compete in the factory-infused color PPF category. The lineup is clear-PPF-focused — color change customers using SunTek are typically getting clear PPF over a vinyl wrap, which is a different product stack with different durability characteristics.

GSWF Infused Color PPF is a true color PPF — factory-pigmented film that is itself a full paint protection layer. 48+ colors across nine collections (Drip, Primary, Rouge, Tropic, Pacific, Nightfall, Aurora, Alloy, Shades of Grey). For buyers who want a color change AND full rock-chip protection in a single film install, GSWF is the only choice between these two brands.

Warranty

SunTek's warranty positioning is a major selling point.

  • SunTek Reaction: 12 years — the longest standard PPF warranty in the industry.
  • SunTek Ultra Plus: 10 years.

GSWF's flagship goes three years longer:

  • GSWF Defender Platinum: 15 years (per shop.gswf.com product card).
  • GSWF Defender (rest of clear lineup — Ultra / Hydro / Max / Satin / Matte / 72"): at least 8 years (per gswf.com/clear-ppf/).
  • GSWF Infused Color PPF: up to 10 years (per gswf.com/infused-color-ppf/).

So Defender Platinum beats SunTek Reaction by three years on the flagship comparison. Across the rest of the clear lineup, SunTek's 10-12 year coverage is broader than GSWF's 8-year baseline. For a like-for-like comparison, Reaction vs Defender Platinum is the cleanest pairing.

SunTek warranties are administered through Eastman and the Authorized Dealer network. GSWF warranties are administered through warranty.gswf.com and the certified installer.

Dealer programs

SunTek sells through a wide Authorized Dealer network with strong US coverage — wider than GSWF's footprint, especially outside major metros. Eastman's distribution muscle pushes SunTek into a lot of mid-tier and value-oriented shops, which is part of the reason installed pricing tends to be lower.

GSWF runs a single-tier Certified Installer program. The US footprint is smaller and skews toward shops that want the color PPF category as a differentiator. For buyers in smaller markets, SunTek availability is usually easier to find; GSWF tends to require driving to a regional metro.

Price

SunTek typically installs 5–15% cheaper than the equivalent XPEL job in the same market, and is one of the strongest value picks in the premium PPF tier. Expect $1,300–$2,200 for full-front Reaction coverage on a mid-size vehicle.

GSWF Defender pricing on shop.gswf.com runs $511 (Defender Ultra) and $574 (Defender Platinum) per roll, with installed pricing tracking comparable to other premium PPF brands. The Infused Color lineup carries a meaningful premium over clear PPF because of the color film cost — a full color change install can run $6,000–$12,000+ on a mid-size vehicle.

When to choose which

Choose SunTek if:

  • You want clear PPF protection at a competitive price.
  • The 12-year Reaction warranty is the headline that matters to you.
  • An Eastman-backed Authorized Dealer network in your area is a plus.
  • You're not interested in color change PPF.

Choose GSWF if:

  • You want a color change with full PPF protection underneath.
  • You want Defender Platinum's 15-year warranty on the flagship clear film.
  • You're packaging PPF with GSWF's IMPACVUE windshield film or Night Shade tint.
  • The 10-mil Defender Max for extra impact resistance fits your use case.

As always, the installer matters more than the brand. A skilled SunTek Authorized Dealer with great prep will produce a better result than an average GSWF certified shop, and vice versa. For most clear PPF buyers, SunTek is the value pick; for color PPF or Defender Platinum's long-warranty positioning, GSWF wins.
