What Makes a "Best" Coating
Most ceramic coatings within the same tier (premium pro, mid-tier pro, consumer DIY) perform within a fairly narrow range. The marketing language is often more differentiated than the actual chemistry.
Things that genuinely matter:
- The certified installer doing the work. A skilled installer with a mid-tier coating beats a sloppy installer with a premium coating, every time.
- The level of paint correction included in the install.
- The number of layers applied and the cure time between layers.
- The maintenance schedule the customer is willing to follow.
What matters less than marketing implies:
- The exact bottle / brand name on the coating.
- The "9H hardness" claim (see our scratch prevention article).
- The advertised warranty length, if it requires unrealistic maintenance.
How to Choose
Pick a brand that has a strong certified dealer near you. Visit the dealer in person, look at their portfolio, ask about the level of correction included, and confirm the warranty terms. The brand is less important than the dealer.
For high-value cars, prioritize the highest-tier dealer (Elite Dealer, Black Label Dealer, etc) of any reputable brand over a mid-tier dealer of the absolute "best" brand.
