Automotive window tint is a thin polyester film applied to the inside of a vehicle’s windows to block UV radiation, reject infrared heat, reduce glare, and add privacy. Modern ceramic and carbon films offer dramatically better heat rejection than traditional dyed films without the orange/purple fade that older tints develop over time.
Tint is sold by VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) — a 35% film lets 35% of visible light through. Front side window legality varies by state: most allow 30-50% on the fronts and any darkness on the rear. Reputable installers know your local laws and will install a legal combination by default.
Expect $250-$450 for a sedan in a basic dyed film, $400-$700 for a quality carbon film, and $600-$1,200 for a top-tier ceramic film like 3M Crystalline, LLumar IRX, or SunTek CIR. Lifetime warranties from major brands cover bubbling, peeling, and color shift.
